Dutch growers risk being left with unsold stock at the end of the season
De first organic yellow onions from Egypt have arrived in Holland. The reds are expected in the first week of April
Prices for the Egyptian organic onions are about the same as the Dutch. Dutch growers are still reluctant with their offers – many holding out for higher prices. The danger is that this will leave them with unsold stock at the end of the season. This is what happened last year and the two years before that – stock either not being sold or having to be sold for industrial processing.
Some German clients are already moving into Egyptian organic onions.
